Dr Melati graduated as a doctor in medicine and surgery in 2000. He gained his Fellowship of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2008. Dr Melati is an accredited doctor with Skin Cancer College of Australasia. He was awarded a Master of Medicine in the Field of Skin Cancer from The University of Queensland in 2012.

Dr Melati has a keen interest in skin cancer prevention, care, and research, and collaborated with the University of Queensland as a senior lecturer.
